EDIT: I looked at the video, and PETA? Really? Look at the millions they spend on advertising, and hiring models. I HATE stupid shit like that. HOORAY WE’RE ABOVE EVERYONE ELSE. In conclusion: Eat shit, Emily Martin.

Kenton, I don’t think your negativity was necessary. There was no reason to be so offensive. And I don’t like getting into these sort of heated discussions, but I guess I feel like speaking my mind. I agree with Kenton that if people become vegetarians because it’s hip, it’s their business. They can do as they please. It shouldn’t be such an affront to your existence, but I understand the feeling. Really the point of this is I am never a fan of PETA propaganda. It’s a joke. PETA is popular because it’s hip. Also, look into it, you’ll realize PETA isn’t so wonderful. Exhibit A: http://www.petakillsanimals.com/. I think the way to properly counteract animal cruelty, is not by simply denying oneself meat. But to encourage the ethical treatment of animals intended for consumption. There’s nothing morally wrong with eating animals. It’s a natural system. But we take the meat we eat for granted. We should be more appreciative of the meat that we do consume, and understand it was once a living creature. Scare tactics that PETA loves so much does nothing but spur hate. Support the local farmers who treat their animals with respect. Positive action like this does more to bring about change than simply bashing the enemy.

Negativity aside, your bit about the peaceful farmer thing is a bit FARFETCH’d, The reality is that chickens grow up in cages, their natural defenses are bred out, and they exist to be eaten. That shouldn’t be the case. Cows are treated with growth hormones, and hooked up to pumps that constantly and uncomfortably milk them. Mercy for animals revealed this to me, and I liked most of their stuff until they started posting videos about how great they are. Now I’m quite cynical of all these things. Peta especially. and you bring up good points about why this organization/company, is a joke, so stop dissin me bro.

Actually, farmers who create organic products like those sold at the farmers market use free range chickens that are not kept in cages and exist as they would naturally. The cows are grass fed, which is their natural diet, they aren’t given any sort of hormones, and are milked by human hands. They aren’t run through any sort of factory operation. Pretty much all of the meat we’ve bought in the past few years has come from one of the farmers at the farmers market, or from an organic food co-op that helps to bring local farmers together to benefit each other and promote healthy, natural farming.

Fraction of a percent of meat produced.

I think you missed the point. I was saying that we should support the local farmers who decide to treat their animals ethically. Instead of simply boycotting unethical food industries by not eating meat. People should buy meat from farms that treat their animals humanely. It goes further. Also that if more people appreciated and thought about the meat they consumed, they would be inclined to then support said farmers.

Maybe I’m too much of a misanthrope. Well, no, I am too much of one. But I just don’t see that happening. I don’t see people giving up meat collectively either, though. I agree on principle, but not on practicality. Man is a wolf to man.

Okay. Uh, ok, well as I was not targeting this at any of my so called “friends” Kenton Jetton, I was speaking in general of stupid people. I didn’t know tumblr was for jumping down peoples throats when they speak whats on their mind? And Kenton I’m sorry I “brag” about being a vegetarian, i bet thats only like the first or second time you’ve ever heard me say that though, right? right. and if i’m bragging you are as well, just want to clear that up, Mr. “Im vegan now and have been before” KEWL. and “kendallsfreakingcool”…. WHO ARE YOU dont get in my business. that is all. i support my friends who are veg. makes life easier on me as well. so don’t be mean please unless you know who i am talking to.
